charley harper
last night i flipped through this gorgeous book again at darr's lovely house up in midway. it was fun to have nick there to enjoy it with me. we think we need a copy of this up in the resource room.
When I look at a wildlife or nature subject, I don’t see the feathers in the wings, I just count the wings. I see exciting shapes, color combinations, patterns, textures, fascinating behavior and endless possibilities for making interesting pictures. I regard the picture as an ecosystem in which all the elements are interrelated, interdependent, perfectly balanced, without trimming or unutilized parts; and herein lies the lure of painting; in a world of chaos, the picture is one small rectangle in which the artist can create an ordered universe.

i also found these fun children's books and toys that old navy of all places put out awhile ago
check out ohdeedoh's post about them
It's Official!
I will be interning in New York City with summer! I start working at The Moderns on May 4th and my last day will be August 19th. I couldn't be more excited. Our class trip at the beginning of the month was amazing.
And I am dying to get back to:
this stuff blew my socks off. it definitely made it onto my top 10 things i have even eaten in my entire life list. after eating, all of us just sat in silence. if you go to NYC do not miss this! i still need to try this at home, i took note of what it had on it and it seems like it couldn't be that difficult.
oh my gosh. never has a doughnut tasted so sinful. it oozes sweetness. just look at that thing. another specialty was the pistachio doughnut. which was something i had never heard of before. but i recommend it now!
i am a huge fan of Hatch's Hot Chocolate up in Salt Lake. They make delicious stuff and City Bakery's rendition tasted very similar. its like a melted chocolate bar in a cup. it was the marshmallow that made City Bakery marvelous to me. i am not a marshmallow fan but goodness gracious this was superb. drink the hot chocolate, then eat the marshmallow, after it has soaked up the chocolately goodness and melted a bit.
i have been in love with falafel since i went to egypt back when my family was living in ireland. when we lived in california, there was a great falafel joint not far from home, that we went to often. but i haven't found any great place for falafel in arizona or utah. so i was overjoyed when i finally got to taste of that middle eastern goodness again. and plus this was my cheapest meal in NYC. score!
so banana bread pudding would never be something i would order. but according to foursquare tips, this was the thing to get, so i sampled it and i knew i just had to have it. i dont know how they do it but its great. it was my breakfast that morning. i figured since it had bananas it counted.
we had planned on stopping by this place for dinner, but when we arrived, they were closing. we were so defeated, but i couldnt leave there without trying what they were renowned for. i ordered a homemade lemon lime soda and this side order of mac and cheese. they need to make this dish the main deal. so yummy. and it tied me over until we found another place to eat.
we went to this place for Nick's birthday dinner. from the reviews, everyone seemed to love the food, but the service recived low marks. and man were they right. we did run into some problems with the waiters but that would not keep me away from the pizza. i found the pizza we had here more impressive than the famous new york lombardis pizzeria. call me crazy.
I might have to start working out this summer huh??
I promise there is more to New York than food, but that's what is on my mind today
And I am dying to get back to:
